Brief Description:  Wheel chocks

At the last New England Sonex fly-in, I noticed the chocks Glenn Hunt was using on his Sonex #639. I made some using 1" PVC costing about $3.00 each for materials. With the exposed portion of the center leg 5-1/2 inches long, and the exposed portion of the short legs at 3", the chocks are a nice fit, requiring a slight twist to put them on. That should keep them from blowing away on a gusty ramp. They only weigh 0.9# each, so a reasonable weight to carry along for the breakfast fly-ins.

If a compass is installed, apparently you need a compass correction card also, but it doesn't need to be filled in for the airworthiness inspection. I used the P-Touch labeller to make a "card" for the compass. It is split around the "XT" because that is a push button LED light switch. Once I get compass correction information, I can remake/update the "card".

The VW case upper aft 12mm stud is a bit too short for the nylon lock nut to be effective. I replaced the flat washer with a 1/2"/12mm Nord-Lock washer. The threaded engagement of the nylon locknut is the same as a 12mm nut, so the shear strength of the nut threads is maintained even if the nylon is not making contact with the stud. Nord-Lock washers are also supplied with the ground adjustable prop bolts for locking purposes.
